2025 After-school Season Begins
A Strong Start to the Institute's New After-school Season
This fall, the Institute of Music for Children opened a vibrant new season of After-school and Saturday classes, welcoming over 150 young artists from across the community.
From Tuesday through Thursday after school—and again on Saturdays—our buildings come alive with the sound of instruments, dance rehearsals, laughter, and the steady energy of students ready to learn. With more than 30 classes across music, dance, visual arts, culinary arts, and creative enrichment, students are exploring everything from piano to African drumming, comic book creation, music production, painting, violin, acting, dance ensembles, and more.
The variety of classes ensures that every young person can discover, develop, and deepen their artistic voice. “Our students bring the energy, and our teaching artists bring the heart,” shared one staff member as the season began. “Our campus changes completely every afternoon or Saturday when the classes begin. Together, we create the magic that defines the Institute.”
Families Engaged and Growing with the Community
Family participation has also played a meaningful role in this strong start. Membership meetings have been well attended, with parents showing enthusiasm for joining the Institute’s membership program as a chance to receive class discounts, stay more connected, and actively support the community. These gatherings have also given families the opportunity to learn about the expansion of programs, meet staff members, hear updates on the Institute’s growth, and share ideas for strengthening the students' experience.
Behind every class, rehearsal, and workshop this season is the dedication of the Institute’s staff, teaching artists, and families working together to create a space where young people feel supported and inspired. Preparing materials, coordinating dozens of schedules, shaping meaningful lessons, and ensuring every student feels welcomed takes an enormous collective effort—one that reflects the heart of the Institute.
Teen Nights Flourish with Food, Friends, and Creativity
One of the most beloved parts of the new season has been the return of Teen Nights, weekly gatherings that bring together more than 50 teenagers for evenings of creativity, conversation, games, and community-building. Each Teen Night includes a shared dinner generously provided or sponsored by families—an effort that has been embraced wholeheartedly. These evenings give teens a safe, supportive space to connect, unwind, and express themselves alongside peers and youth leaders.
