Ages 3 & 4
Little ones have fun with movement and dance. Students will participate in physical exercises that build coordination, balance, and agility. Students will also explore a range of dance styles and will learn basic choreography that will have them dancing everywhere they go.
Engaging activities and games are used to teach the fundamentals of music. Students will explore tempo, pitch, rhythm and timing while having fun singing songs, exploring instruments, making beats, hearing stories and enjoying the gifts of music with their classmates.
An introduction to the world of creative drama, students will use their imaginations to bring characters and stories to life. Students practice public speaking, expressing emotion and have tons of fun in the land of make believe.
Ages 5 - 7
Students have fun with both stick and hand drumming while exploring basic beats and rhythms of a variety of styles of music including a range of Latin, African, Rock and Jazz. Students will learn basic drum notation while building timing, listening and coordination skills.
Students learn both the basics of music theory including the music alphabet, scales, and key signatures. Students also practice identifying keys, reading notes and build skills in rhythm and timing while learning to play a variety of songs
Fun and interactive activities and songs engage students in the movement and music. Students practice vocal technique including proper breathing, support and control to improve the quality and strength of their singing voices. By adding choreography, students learn how to use their bodies in combination with their voices to create a performance.
Students build skills in drawing, painting and other mixed media that may include collage and sculpture. Color theory, composition and other fundamentals of visual arts will be explored.
Students build skills in fingering, form, and proper bow technique, while learning the fundamentals of music theory including reading music. Students will work individually and collaboratively on exercises and song work building rhythm, timing, concentration, comprehension and coordination.
Students learn how to read as well as play notes and chords. Students build rhythm, timing, coordination, memory and finger strength through a variety of music exercises and through playing classic and contemporary songs.
Ages 5 – 8
Ages 8 -12
Using music creation software such a Garage Band or Logic, students learn the fundamentals of arranging their own tracks. They will explore a wide range of instruments and musical styles and will learn how to combine these elements to make original compositions.
Students will gain practical experience in the kitchen and will measure, mix, chop & cook will practicing different recipes and learning about food from different cultures. Kitchen safety and etiquette and understanding nutrition in cooking will also be covered.
For students with at least one year of group guitar class, this next level class focuses on more complex chord progression, strumming technique and music theory.
Through activities and exercises, students build the “Actor’s Toolbox” including strengthening voice, body, imagination and memory. Students will practice building characters, creating dialogue and develop stage presence. Students learn how to become keen observers and listeners while becoming more comfortable, confident and supportive.
One of the early instruments, the harp can be dated back to the middle ages. Perfect for a beginner, students will learn the fundamentals of harp and music theory in a group ensemble.
